Report on Sanskrit Chanting and Music Competition, December 2024

Two competitions were organized at Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre. One is Sanskrit Chanting in three age categories and the other is Music, also in three age categories in Bengali/Hindi. The competition is a two-stage process wherein all the registered candidates compete online first followed by an offline competition of the shortlisted participants. In all 1140 candidates registered for the competition among which 835 have submitted their audios in online mode. After an evaluation and shortlisting, 132 candidates were called for an offline competition at Swamiji’s House on the afternoon of 15th December 2024. Offline competitions were held followed by a prize distribution ceremony in the same evening. Swami Jnanalokananda, Secretary presided over the function and Swami Dhyeyananda of Polytechnic College at RKM Belgharia was the chief guest.   First, Second, Third and two Special Prizes in cash were awarded in each category along with mementoes, books and certificates. A total amount of Rs. 48,000 was disbursed as prize money among winners. The whole event was financially supported by Vivekananda Study & Philanthropic Center of New York, USA. Apart from West Bengal, the program witnessed participants from few other parts of India like Agartala and Bangalore making it a national event. Here are few glimpses of the program.
